How can we help?
OACAS has a team
of fully trained and experienced counsellors. We offer
individual counselling on a regular and continuing basis.
You will see an individual counsellor who will help you to
understand your drinking, and assist you to make such
changes in your life as, together, you may think necessary.
We also offer
help for other problems; such as gambling addiction, anger
management - and ‘Generic’ counselling.
The service is
free, and confidential between you and the Agency.
Counselling sessions are generally held at our premises in
Kirkwall, but clients may be seen by arrangement at other
locations in the Islands.

Why
Should You Talk to a Counsellor?
You may find yourself unable to
talk to a close friend or relative about your situation.
This is a natural reaction. Perhaps you should consider
talking to a counsellor in confidence. There are several
advantages in doing this:
|

|
The counsellor will not
be personally involved with you or your partner and
can therefore take an objective view of the
situation.
|
|

|
Just talking to someone
who has the time to listen to you can help to
relieve you of some of the burden of any worries you
may have.
|
|

|
The counsellor has been
trained in helping people who are suffering as the
result of either their own or someone else’s
drinking and may be in a position to offer the
assistance you require.

How Do We Operate?
We operate from
discreet, but easily accessible premises in Gunn's Close,
Kirkwall. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and informal.
Counselling is carried out on a one-to-one basis and
is confidential. There are only two people in the room: you
and the counsellor. There is no one else present unless you
choose to bring someone else along with you.
We can also
offer appointments in Stromness.
You may contact us by phone,
make an appointment, speak to a counsellor, or just drop in.
In exceptional circumstances a counsellor may visit you at
home. Outside of office hours, there is an answer phone
service - you may wish to leave a phone number or an address
at which you can be contacted. Appointments can be arranged
for evenings and weekends. Remember the service is free
and confidential.
